An electric bike conversion kit without battery, contains everything that is needed to make a typical bike into an electric bike, except the battery. Either the front or the rear wheel of the bike is removed, and replaced with the electric bike conversion kit wheel. This wheel contains the electric motor in the hub. The result is an electric bike that rides, shifts, and pedals normally, yet gives the rider a boost on demand. The basic components of the electric bike conversion kit are the hub motor wheel, electronic speed controller, display, throttle and electronic brake cut off handles.
We offer the electric bike conversion kit without battery, because some customers already have a battery, or would prefer a battery from another vendor. We do not ship batteries internationally, so customers outside the USA also need a kit without battery. There are two distinct types of hub motors used in electric bike conversion kits. We offer both types, because one motor type does not fit all cyclists' needs.
For general use, such as one person bicycles without a lot of extra cargo, the High Performance electric bike conversion kit is the best choice. It uses a light weight geared motor. The gears let a smaller motor pull harder, and includes an internal freewheel. This allows zero resistance to pedaling with the motor off, or when coasting. The high performance kit has great acceleration resulting in a fun yet still efficient ride. The speed of the high performance electric bike conversion kit is medium fast with 20 mph when a 36v battery is used, or fast with 28 mph when a 48v battery is used.
For heavier bikes, like cargo bikes, tandem bikes, or towing trailers full of kids or groceries, the Heavy Duty electric bike conversion kit is the best choice. It uses a heavier, lower rpm direct drive hub motor without the internal gears. This allows heavier loads to be hauled while still having excellent reliability when the motor is being used very hard. The tiny bit of resistance from the direct drive type motor is hardly felt, and in most cases a heavier bike or rider needs some assist the entire ride anyway. The lower rpm motor works efficiently when climbing hills with a heavy load, so the speed of the heavy duty electric bike conversion kit is a medium slow 15 mph when a 36v battery is used, to a medium fast 20 mph when a 48v battery is used.
